Climbing, cycling, hiking or skiing \u2013 once again, the mountains are the place to be.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Guests of the Engadin are already in the know: the mountain landscape is a marvel \u2013 whether you\u2019re hiking on the Corvatsch, looking down from the Muottas Muragl on the \u00ab<\/span>ballroom of the Alps\u00bb<\/span> (that\u2019s the nickname of the Engadin high valley, with mountains higher than three and four thousand metres) or pedalling up Corviglia on a mountain bike.<\/p>\n

The media, cinema and pop stars have all played a part in helping the mountains to be rediscovered. In the movie Clouds of Sils Maria<\/em>, Juliette Binoche plays an actress who retreats to the Engadin to prepare for a role together with her assistant played by Kristen Stewart. In Wild<\/em>, Reese Witherspoon hikes along the Pacific Crest Trail (\u00ab<\/span>I did not know where I was going until I\u2019d arrived\u00bb<\/span>). On Instagram, singer Taylor Swift and her buddy Lorde stride through the mountains.<\/p>\n

Immediately, the news-stands respond: alongside niche publications such as Alps<\/em>, the German Naturfreund<\/em> and Climb<\/em>, there are also new publications called All Mountain<\/em>, a magazine with a journalistic take on mountains, and Bergwelten<\/em>, a magazine featuring the tag line \u00ab<\/span>for an alpine zest for life\u00bb<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The number of hobby mountaineers is sure to increase. Those who clamber up the Schafberg to the Segantini hut can not only enjoy a magnificent view, but also observe some quite unconventional representatives of hobby mountaineers: the silent connoisseur, who rests a little bit apart from the hut, savouring the sandwich he made that morning together with some sliced apple; the know-it-all, who, with wild gesticulations, loudly dissects the panorama for his wife, or the city dweller, who surprisingly managed to reach the peak wearing sandals and has a sausage dog in tow. What a picture.<\/p>\n

Would it not be wonderful if the Engadin painter Segantini were still alive to capture it all?<\/p>\n
