Fog can really spoil a view. For example, the peoplewho live at the foot of the Brocken \u2013 the highest peak in the Harz mountain range in Northern Germany \u2013 have most likely never seen anything at all. Why? Because the Brocken is the foggiest place in all of Europe. Zurich natives also know how dreary \u2013 and depressing \u2013 autumn can be when the fog rises from the Limmat river and the lake. Lots of films take advantage of this gloomy atmosphere, like the horror movie The Fog, for example. Or take the story of the serial killer Jack the Ripper, who crept around in the fog of nineteenth-century London\u2019s East End. Surely, dear readers, you see where we\u2019re headed here. And yes, while the fog has settled over the northern regions in autumn, here on Lago Maggiore it is so sunny and warm that it feels like there are thousands of kilometres between Ticino and Northern Europe. There\u2019s a reason why so many painters throughout history have been fascinated by the one-of-a-kind light here \u2013 and why so many still are. After all, Ticino isn\u2019t called \u201cSwitzerland\u2019s sun room\u201d for nothing. In Ticino, you\u2019ll never be lost in a fog. Well… at least not in a literal one.<\/p>\n
